These advertisements are brilliant. Right from the get go, those spin doctors at Apple have PC nailed. He looks like everyone’s nerdy accountant. The intelligent banter and Sim-like background music help make these advertisements witty and playful while pushing a very serious message.
Apple is making Nerd = Cool. In a very insidious, albeit successful, way, Mac is blurring the line between leisure and work. Mac removes the line between work and play. In his spare time, he builds websites, makes sexy videos and listens to music. His work is a small step away from his play, defined only by his suit and tie.
Am I the only person a little scared that the distinction between ‘real’ and ‘virtual’ and ‘work’ and ‘play’ is slowly fading out of existence?
Since Apple is on top of the ball in the advertising world, I have a suggestion for marketing to the next generation of Apple aficionados: LOLAPPEL. I CAN HAS MAC NAO PLZ?
